Are food cravings myth or fact?
The argument is an old one. Whether cravings are
triggered by pregnancy, stress, or just feeling run down and running on empty, the
brain may be sending out signals that the body needs certain nutrients.
Sodium Cravings
Pregnant women may crave salty chips and pickles, which are high in
sodium, because of increased blood volume and not enough sodium to take up the
slack. Anyone who is not pregnant but have a persistent salty food craving
should consult a doctor to see if there is some kind of imbalance that
needs attention.
Chocolate on Overdrive
When you crave a chocolate bar, your body may actually be crying out for more
magnesium, which is a component of chocolate. Feeling weary after a hard day's
work or stressed out over people who aggravated you may trigger a craving for
a chocolate fix. You can choose substitutes for the craving that tempts you the most.
Food Substitutes
There are two kinds of advice about cravings. The one side says eat just a small portion
of whatever you crave. The other side thinks that it's more difficult to stop after one small
portion. If you're craving chocolate, try eating spinach ( yes that's true ) which has the magnesium that
your body may be craving. Wanting a snack that is very sweet? Eat a sweet potato
or a piece of fruit, and the craving is likely to subside.
Look after yourself
The facts show that the baby will take what it needs from the mother, even if that
means taking calcium from their bones or depleting their iron reserves making
them anaemic.
So really you must take care of yourself, and get all the nutrients
you need to grow your baby from the food you eat and not your body reserves.
If you do this, you will feel GREAT and possibly even avoid morning sickness,
hair loss, and other negative pregnancy side effects.
This does not mean that you have to spend a lot of time figuring out what to eat or
even having to eat foods that you do not like.
Michelle has done the research and can show you simple changes to your diet that will
make you feel incredible.
